Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court Coordinator
Reports To: Youth Crisis Intervention Center Director

 Location: N Mission Drive, Winnebago NE 68071                                                                   
Job Purpose & Position Overview:
This position is located in the Juvenile Healing to Wellness Tribal Court. The incumbent will work closely with the tribal Prosecutor and Elder Judge and coordinate the Healing to Wellness/Court for first time juvenile offenders. The Healing to Wellness/Court will work with the juvenile, family members and other in alleviating negative behavior patterns by utilizing traditional and alternative justice solutions. The Elder Judge will be knowledgeable of family relationships and the Winnebago Culture. 
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court schedule and making the schedule available to all pertinent parties. Incumbent will also be responsible for sending out notices to parents and panel members of upcoming hearings. He/She will also be responsible for keeping an accurate record of the hearings and maintaining confidential files of the juvenile offender.
  • The incumbent will meet monthly with the Elder Judge and Tribal Prosecutor and update them on the status of the juveniles referred to the Healing to Wellness Court. He/She will also seek training in mediation, tribal court processes and other relevant subject matter for the panel members.
  • The incumbent will prepare a monthly report to the YCIC Director. A quarterly report will also be required showing the number of juveniles referred, progress to date and completion of the court requirements. The incumbent will schedule a quarterly review meeting with the Elder Judge, YCIC Director and Tribal Prosecutor. 
  • The incumbent will work closely with the juvenile offender’s families insuring that the recommendations of the Elder Judge is being adhered to and that progress is being monitored at  home and at school through contact with the school officials and counselors.
  • The incumbent will work and maintain close contact with school counselors, mental health workers, coaches, ministers and other family members who play a major role in the juvenile offender’s lives. He/She may be called upon to coordinate meetings between the resource people and the juvenile offender, the partner/guardians and others.

 Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • Completion of an Associate Degree, or the equivalent to, or the completion of at least two (2) years at an accredited college in the areas of criminal justice, liberal arts, or other related fields.
  • Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality of all client files as provided by the law and established procedures. 
  • Proficient in the use of Office Word, Excel and other related data base programs.
  • Must possess the ability to work with all personalities of people who call or visit the court.
  • Must possess a good command of the English language, both orally and written
  • Must be dependable and able to work additional hours when required.
  • Must be able to work independently with very little supervision from the YCIC Director.
  • Must follow the Code of Ethics established for all Winnebago Tribal Court personnel.
  • Must be able to travel when required.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Tribal Court Clerk Certification. 
 Conditions of employment:
  • This position is grant funded and NOT guaranteed passed September 30, 2022.

  • Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested.
 Physical Requirements:
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision. 
 Language Requirements:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

  • All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.
