 Job Purpose & Position Overview: 
The Media and Design Specialist produces online and digital content for the purpose of revitalizing the Ho-Chunk language. The specialist will create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate target audiences. They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, banners, magazines, social media content, language material content, video and audio layout and any other relevant content for organizational goals. Majority of their work will be focused on creating various forms of Ho-Chunk language instruction by utilizing media technology and graphic design. 
 
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities: 
  • Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision, and values. 
  • Demonstrate effective communication, decision-making, leadership, critical thinking, analytical, research, information and computer literacy, strategic planning, problem solving and time management skills. 
  • Knowledge in areas of computer programming, introductory networking, systems development, computer hardware, operating systems, and databases or willing to learn. 
  • Knowledge with computers, software, and internet to promote learning materials to be utilized, cataloged, archived, and appropriately disburse to community and tribal members. 
  • Regularly researches and updates staff on trends and makes recommendations for new digital activities for language instructions. 
  • Manages design of website, social media, language app(s), and all software updates. 
  • Assist with drafting scripts and produce/film/edit videos using in-house equipment including photography. 
  • Oversee and manage audio and video content for program in the absence of the Media Production Manager. 
  • Will assist Ho-Chunk Renaissance staff in designing digital lessons for classroom instruction. 
  • Manages applying language content, flyers, advertisements, and cultural information for WIN newspaper and any other advertising platform including newsletters and billboards. 
  • Assist in selecting appropriate audio and graphics for projects within organization. 
  • Create highly engaging complex animations for a diverse array of media including smartphones, tablets, and the web. 
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, web designers, marketing agencies, printers, and colleagues as necessary. 
  • Creating a wide range of graphics and layouts for product illustrations, e-newsletter’s, logos, platforms, video layouts, and websites with software such as Photoshop. 
  • Manages logos, (cultural) photos, digital content such as (but not limited to): worksheets, workbooks, posters, banners, videos. 
  • The program expert on design and layout for execution of marketing tools for program awareness goals. 
  • Collaborate with media-oriented employees to create and maintain an official website for Ho-Chunk Renaissance. 
  • Participate in events to encourage community involvement in the language project. 
  • Submit required reports in a timely manner. 
  • Assist staff with curriculum development.

 Required Qualifications/Skills: 
  • Preferably a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science or related field. 
  • Excellent skills in both PC and Mac environments, including knowledge of and familiarity of common office software (Microsoft Office, especially Word, Internet Explorer, and Outlook) common file formats, etc. 
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing for the web, and in the production of digital communication including filming and editing of video, production of audio, and written web content. 
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision in completing the goals and objectives of the program. 
  • Must be willing to commit to necessary training to increase knowledge of the program. Travel may be required. 
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Possess the ability to work efficiently with a wide variety of people in environment. 
Training Requirements: 
  • Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested. 
 Physical Requirements: 
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. 
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment. 
  • While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. 
Mental Requirements: 
  • Reading, writing, calculating 
  • Above average social interaction skills 
  • Reasoning/Analysis 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision. 
Language Requirements: 
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently. 
  • Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
